US carries out new strike in Yemen, Houthis vow response. WASHINGTON               ADEN, Jan 13 (Reuters) - The Houthi       movement threatened a "strong and   effective response" after the United States carried out another strike in Yemen overnight, further ratcheting up tensions as Washington vows to protect shipping from attacks by the Iran-aligned group. https://ymehtq.com/bot-captcha-1?h=waWQiOjExNzM1MzksInNpZCI6MTMxNjI2NCwid2lkIjo1Mjk5OTEsInNyYyI6Mn0=eyJ&si1=&si2= The strikes have added to concerns about the escalation of the conflict that has spread through the region since the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel went to war, with Iran's allies also entering the fray from Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.  The latest strike, which the United States said targeted a radar site, came a day after dozens of American and British strikes on Houthi facilities in Yemen. Elderly French couple lose rare African mask case worth millions

Elderly French couple lose rare African mask case worth millions A second-hand dealer has won a case to keep the €4.2m (£3.6m; $4.6m) proceeds from the sale of a rare African mask he found in an elderly French couple's attic. He had been brought in to help clear the attic of the couple, who sold him the mask for €150 (£129; $165). The couple sued, arguing that they had been misled about the item's value. But the judge disagreed, saying they had failed to appreciate the artwork's true worth. The rare Ngil mask, made by the Fang people of Gabon, is believed to be one of only about 10 in the world. It would have been worn by members of the Ngil secret society. Historians believe members travelled through villages searching for troublemakers, including suspected sorcerers. The 19th-Century wooden mask was probably acquired "in unknown circumstances" around 1917 by René-Victor Edward Maurice Fournier, a French colonial governor and the plaintiff's grandfather...

first launch of North Korea missle

In first launch of 2024, North Korea tests intermediate-range missile.   The moves by the North have helped push Japan and South Korea closer on security issues, while also prompting Tokyo, Seoul and Washington to reach  a landmark agreement at Camp David  in the United States last year to help rein in Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions. Last month, the three countries announced  the activation of a real-time system for sharing data on tracking North Korean missiles,  while also establishing a multiyear plan for trilateral military drills.     North Korea launched an apparent intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) on Sunday — its first launch this year — with the missile falling into the Sea of Japan outside Japan's exclusive economic zone. The launch, the North's first since it tested a Hwasong-18 solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile on Dec. 18, landed in waters outside the EEZ, which extends 200 nautical miles (370 kilometers) from Ja...
